My Experience
I’ve spent over two decades writing for universities and nonprofits – stewardship pieces, campaign messaging, annual appeals, marketing materials, the kind of work that asks a donor to open their wallet or a stranger to care about a mission they’d never heard of yesterday.
Most of that time I’ve worked inside development offices and campaign teams, where a sentence has to survive a legal review, a board member’s opinion, and still make someone feel something. I’ve turned policy language and program outcomes – the stuff that reads like a grant report – into copy a donor actually wants to finish reading.
Places I’ve worked include Akin (Childhaven), the University of Washington, the Washington State University Foundation, and the University of Houston. Before development work, I spent time as a financial advisor. This turned out to be useful training for writing about major and planned gifts, where the emotional and the financial aspects have to work together.
How We’d Work Together
- We hop on a quick call and talk through what you need.
- I send you a first draft within a few days (this may vary based on the actual project).
- You mark up what’s working and what isn’t – two rounds of revisions are built in.
- I deliver the final copy, polished and ready to use.
Most projects wrap up in 1-2 weeks, depending on scope.
When I’m not writing, I’m usually rehearsing for a musical theater role, losing golf balls in tall grass, or showing someone a guitar riff they didn’t ask to hear about.
If you’re here, you’ve probably got a story that matters and no time to write it the way it deserves. Fill out my project form and let’s get started.
